Vision

Transforming menstruation from a "taboo" to a "socially acceptable one" in society by teaching all beneficiaries about menstruation biology and making it more inclusive to develop a non-gendered lexicon and bring dignity to beneficiaries.

Goals

Overcoming the flaws and obstacles in menstruation hygiene health to reach all males & female beneficiaries of Uttarakhand by actively involving all significant stakeholders.

Establishing 'Menstrual Hygiene' as a crucial and strategic component of state and district government bodies.

Our Program Design

Menstruation may be viewed as an annoyance by some people, we are working to raise awareness about this most natural of cycle functions to eradicate abuse, stigma (banished to menstruation huts; barred from sharing meals); missed opportunity (skipping school due to pain and/or lack of personal hygiene products); and loss of dignity. Our interventions will focus on spreading awareness about what menstruation is, why it occurs, and why it is significant is crucial for women. That too just in time, that is, prior to her first period. In order to accept some myths and taboos while rejecting others, we are fostering a debate about them. Menstrual hygiene issues and disorders have a close relationship. So, it’s crucial to emphasize the value of and various approaches to hygiene. Any man or woman irrespective of their gender has the power to influence the lives of the girls and women in their community. In many ways, we have been able to motivate people to join our movement and improve the world in which they live and will continue to do so. We will also focus on ensuring school and community participation, which will help to dispel many myths that have persisted for so long. Our interventions ensure that beneficiaries, regardless of gender, are engaged, allowing them to take meaningful measures to ensure their dignity.

According to a growing body of worldwide research, the most direct and quickest way to enhance girls’ school attendance is to reduce the direct and indirect costs of teaching them. We will provide material assistance in form of Dignity Kits to our beneficiaries to help decrease the financial barriers that could otherwise prevent girls and women from using kits required during Mensuration. Dignity Kits include Sanitary Pads (Bio-degradable), Iron tablets with Zinc and Folic Acid Supplement, Bathing Soap, Detergent & Disposal bag. More then 2000+ kits were distributed till now as part of this. For instance, during Covid 19, Underprivileged Women and girls from low-income families who relied on government programs to obtain sanitary pads were adversely impacted. Sanitary pads were scarce, and during the lockdown, schools that supplied free pads and Units that produced low-cost napkins were unable to do so. AAN Charitable Trust collaborated with the Block Education Office, Kashipur, to alleviate this situation by creating a Dignity Kit was distributed free of charge at the time of Mid-Day Meal under the supervision of the BEO and District Administration.

To ensure the sustainability of all our interventions we will be working closely with District and State Government to create a systematic change. This systematic change will be done by providing technical support to Government which will be our strategy to reach maximum beneficiaries. We have previously worked with various District Officials of Udham Singh Nagar and has always supported us in conducting various initiatives on menstrual hygiene.
